A memorial after crash happened just a few hundred metres south of the site of a fatal crash at the intersection of the Island Highway and Beck Road in December 2005 when 22-year-old C.J. Sommers and Crystal Joanne Ashworth, 42, employees of the Juniper Café, were killed when their car was hit by a speeding northbound pickup truck as they turned south across the highway’s northbound lanes.

Lori Mann, owner of the Juniper Cafe, said she knows of seven fatalities and six head-on collisions at the intersections near her restaurant since she opened in 2000.
